11 Feb New in Studio B: Atlas Orion 2x Anamorphic Lenses

We are excited to announce that the Atlas Orion 2x Anamorphic Set is now available to rent at Studio B! With these 2x Anamorphic lenses, you can capture a wider field of view and get that shallow depth of field with beautiful bokeh and flares. In our experience, these lenses have made our videos look great. Check out our video we shot last year for Jumpstart at Lyft HQ.
Did we mention that Ariana Grande’s music video “Thank U, Next” was also shot with these Anamorphic lenses?
We have “Set A” which includes: 40mm, 65mm, and 100mm – which all open up to T2 with a common 114mm front diameter. They are available to rent individually or as a set. You have the choice between EF or PL mounts.

12 Dec Studio B in Virtual Reality

Studio B is in the VR game these days, shooting and stitching 360-degree video for the web, mobile, or VR headsets like the Oculus Rift. Check out our non-interactive reel above to see some samples of 360° videos we shot recently.

We’re especially excited about the possibilities that Virtual Reality presents and have been experimenting extensively with 360-degree rigs and VR storytelling. While not the right medium for every story, when your goal is to drop the audience into an immersive experience and take them to places that they would otherwise not have access, we think there’s nothing quite like VR. It’s truly an amazing tool.

We are offering 360° camera rentals as well as services such as concepting, shooting, stitching, and editing VR footage. To read about the services we offer and possible video applications for 360, check out this page here. To rent our GoPro Omni 360° camera rig, go to this page here or give us a call!

31 Mar The Brand New Studio B Camera Rentals Website

The Studio B Camera Rentals website is all new! New layout, product categories, pictures, and descriptions, and new design all around. After several years of the previous layout, we decided to switch to a WordPress template for easier editing capabilities and a simpler, more elegant design consistent with the parent company site at studiobfilms.com.

Big thanks to Otterly Designs for designing and build the site from the ground up; Erica at Otterly did a fantastic job turning our ideas into a reality. You can see the site up in Otterly’s portfolio.

Check out all the new pages and features of the site today: studiobcamerarentals.com

23 Feb 4k Internal Recording on our Sony F5

F54k

Move over F55, our Sony F5 can now shoot 4k internally straight onto SxS cards. We just upgraded it this week, so now there’s no need for the AXS-R5 external RAW recorder for quick and easy 4k shots. While it doesn’t shoot RAW internally (for that you’ll still need the R5), if you want to shoot 4k and don’t want to deal with the size of RAW footage, it’s a lighter, cheaper alternative. Now, rather than recording 500GB of footage for just an hour of 4k RAW, you can fit a lot more on your cards and hard drives with the more compressed 4k XAVC codec.

Since they first came out, the ability to shoot 4k internally is one of the main aspects that set the more expensive F55 apart from the F5. With upgrades like this, however, the gap is narrowing and the F5 is proving to be the better investment.

Best of all, the basic camera rental hasn’t changed in price at all with this upgrade, so you can now rent the F5 and get beautiful 4k images for the same rate as before.

10 Feb C-Stand Basics by Shane Hurlbut

DP Shane Hurlbut just posted an instructional video on the basics of setting up and operating C-Stands. Whether you’re a beginner or a key grip, (though it’s definitely more for beginners), it’s worth watching just to fill any gaps in your knowledge.

Check out the post on his site where he also includes a lighting schematic diagram for the making of this video.
